a chapter of
Sweet Adelines International

Mountain Harmony was chartered in 1981 with over 20 members.  In the 20 years hence, over 100 women have participated in our chorus.  Sweet Adelines choruses are worldwide and are separated into Regions, where each chorus participates in a yearly competition.  Award winning choruses will then participate in an international competition.  Mountain Harmony is proud to have received the First Place Small Chorus Award in both 1995 and 1996 during our regional competition in Columbus, Ohio, and second place in 1997.

The musical style is Barbershop, which is harmony sung in four voice parts (tenor, lead, baritone, and bass) without accompaniment.  The lead generally sings the melody of the song with the Bass singing the lowest harmony and the Tenor singing the highest harmony.  The Baritone fills in the harmony, sometimes singing above the Lead and often below.  The four parts put together make a fascinating form of vocal entertainment different from other forms of vocal music.  Quartets, made up of one of each voice part, are a key feature of Barbershop music.

Mountain Harmony rehearses each Monday at 7:00 p.m at South Middle School Auditorium.  Women of varied ages, experiences, and backgrounds, both with and without musical training, make up the chorus.  A primary objective of each rehearsal is to increase each member's musical ability as well as share friendship and love of singing.  Mountain Harmony enjoys performing and entertains at churches, clubs, nursing homes, schools, professional organizations, sororities and fraternities, community and volunteer groups for all types of audiences.  We look forward to singing for you!
